Jailed APHC leader urges Kashmiris to observe Jan 26 as Black Day

Nayeem Ahmed Khan, the senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), has stated that Indian Republic Day should not be observed by a fascist nation that violates the fundamental rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

"Since the past several decades, Indian occupation forces have been grossly involved in trampling down the fundamental political and democratic rights of the Kashmiri people," the incarcerated Hurriyat leader said in a message that he sent from Tihar jail on Tuesday. He did so while condemning India's illegal and forcible occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.

Khan stated, "The Indian rulers have chosen a violent path to suppress by means of force the aspirations of Kashmiri people, despite their commitments of holding a free, fair, and impartial plebiscite to let the people of Jammu and Kashmir decide their political fate."

He stated that the international community was obligated to take India's illegal occupation of Kashmir seriously. According to him, the region's unrest is primarily due to this belligerent occupation.

He said that the massacre of 21 unarmed protesters by the Indian Border Security Force in Handwara town on January 25, 1990, was the most horrifying example of Indian state terrorism, recalling the terrible genocide of innocent civilians at Handwara by the Indian army.

He regretted noting that those involved in this barbaric act were given a clean bill of health, and he demanded an independent investigation into the incident to bring the perpetrators to justice.
